Johannesburg forced to install prepaid meters in their houses.
December 14, 2010
Johannesburg residents might soon be forced to install prepaid water and electricity meters in their houses.
This comes as the city’s billing system, named Project Phakama, which was supposed to sort out problems with residents’ municipal accounts, resulted in chaos.

The pre-paid system
April 07, 2011
If you are a registered Municipal Services Subsidy or Reathusa customer (customers who have had to set up an individual payment plan with the City), you must have a free pre-paid meter installed.
All other customers will be offered pre-paid meters for which they will be charged. A pre-paid meter will only be installed if all service accounts are up to date. Costs will vary from single phase to three phase meters.
